Wanting to explore our Scandinavian neighbor a bit more, we set our sights on Gothenburg, Sweden. Little did we know that it would be one of our favorite spots in all of Europe!
After a delightful train ride up the coast of Sweden, we checked into our hotel and scouted out a spot for dinner. A short jaunt through a pretty park later, we found ourselves at a cozy establishment with good food and tasty wine. We were seated next to a jovial table, complete with the family dogs. After dinner, we wandered the streets and found our way to the harbor and the opera house.

The next morning, we satisfied our "Swede" tooth at a local bakery. And good thing we did, because we needed that sugar to fuel a nice, long walk. First up was Haga, a charming cobblestone street lined with shops and eateries - and cinnamon buns bigger than my head! Next up was a very long flight of stairs to Skansen Kronan. The view was worth the climb, and we took a well-deserved break with a glass of wine.
The next destination was our favorite of all - Slotskogen. This park is giant and full of surprises - lakes, waterfalls, a free park, and a super cute playground. A goofy gaggle of geese, several moose, and many other animal friends kept us entertained during our visit.
After a quick stop at Gotaplatsen to take in the Poseidon fountain, we stopped by a very creative cocktail bar. The margarita was our fave, but we were also treated to fascinating drinks that included ramen, sourdough, and more. Plus, we got a behind-the-scenes look at how they engineer their ingredients - very scientific!
The next day, a boat tour showed us the sights, gave us some historical tidbits, and offered more dad jokes than expected. After lunch at the local food hall and a glass of orange wine at a cute wine bar, we took one last stroll through the botanical gardens. Both the palm house and outdoor gardens are gorgeous and relaxing. We very much didn't want to leave - I would gladly visit again!
