Hoping to explore more of the country by train, Jacob and I decided to spend a weekend in Aarhus. The train ride was pleasant, our bed and breakfast was lovely, and the town had a really chill vibe.

By the time our train got to town, we were rather hungry - luckily our hotel was not far from Aarhus Street Food. We enjoyed several of our meals there. With plenty of delicious options to choose from, great options for indoor and outdoor seating, and entertainment options for both adults and kids, it offered a little something for everyone.

After lunch, we went for a lovely walk about town. City hall was a highlight, with its unique clock and a fun pig-themed fountain. And the river walk was lovely, complete with plenty of spots to stop off for a drink or a snack. While walking through the charming latin quarter, we ran into a street band and enjoyed a glass of orange wine set to live music. As Aarhus is a college town, we figured, "when in Rome" and grabbed a glass of Sherry at a local tapas spot. After tracking down an impressive fountain by the harbor, we called it a night.

Day 2 featured the main attraction: Den Gamle By, the historic, open air museum. And it did not disappoint. It features three different eras: our time (2000-2014), welfare and open-mindedness (1950-1974), modern times (1900-1927), and the old town (1600-1900). We were pleasantly surprised to find the more recent areas to be quite interesting (there was even a Blockbuster and a speakeasy bar!), and the historic area was especially charming and impressive. A highlight was watching folks attempt to use old-fashioned stilts while eating lunch next to an area set up for an anvil-related black smith competition. Another was a family of sassy geese who hung out in the mayor's garden. I absolutely adored the museum and would not turn down a chance to go back!
